About the artists

Chattanooga-born tenor man Bennie Wallace pairs a big, raspy tone with daring leaps, rooted in Coleman Hawkins and Sonny Rollins. Since arriving in New York in 1971 he has recorded for Enja and Blue Note, played with Ray Anderson and Buddy Rich, and scored Ron Shelton films like White Men Can't Jump.

New Orleans native Herlin Riley picked up drumsticks as a small child and brings his hometown's second-line groove to everything he plays. He spent years in Ahmad Jamal's band and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, and leads his own groups on Mack Avenue Records.

Vibraphonist and composer Simon Moullier grew up in Nantes, France, and is now based in New York. A Thelonious Monk Institute graduate mentored by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, he leads a quartet whose newest album, Ceiba, came out in April 2026.
