About the artist
alto saxophone
Detroit-raised alto saxophonist Charles McPherson is one of the purest voices of bebop, with a singing, Charlie Parker-rooted sound. He worked on and off with Charles Mingus from 1960 to 1974 and helped record the Parker music for Clint Eastwood's film Bird.
