Charles Owens is a Virginia-based tenor saxophonist who spent more than a decade on the New York scene and still returns often to Smalls. His warm, searching sound has kept company with Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Brian Blade, and his trio has recorded a string of albums.
